Transcription: The concept of a space station first appeared in print in 1869, followed shortly by the novels of H.G. Wells and Jules Verne that foresaw space travel. By 1900, Konstantin Tsiolkovsky had published scholarly works on the subject of space exploration, but it was Hermann Oberst's Theoretical Treatise, published in 1923, that marked the beginning of the modern concept of space stations.
